Scams (사기)에 관한 글로 원어민 표현 배우기 [영어 읽을거리]

Scam이란 단어를 들어본 적이 있을지도 모르겠다. 

근데 사기라는 단어는 cheat나 fraud 로 알고있는 경우가 많다. 물론 이렇게 쓰는 경우도 많지만

얘도 만만치 않게 많이 쓰니까 그냥 알아보자.

 

본문을 보자면

" She seemed to know so much about her. I thought it had to be real," George recalls. "She lured me in and I fell for it, hook, line and sinker. " The initial $50 fee increased to $100. The psychic inisted that she needed to buy more special materials, and that each session took more work, requiring higher fees. She had already managed to con him out of over $7,000. At one point, George nearly gave up.

처음에는 부담주지 않기위해 낮은 가격을 제시하지만 나중에는 높은 가격을 제시해서 상대방을 망하게 하는 사기죠?

마약도 처음에 싸게줘가지고 중독시켜놓고 비싸게 판다그러는데 인생 망치는 지름길 ㅇㅇ

dead wife보다 조금 더 격식있는 '죽은 아내'보다 '세상을 떠난 아내' 같이 조금 더 무거운말이랄까?

 

depart가 출발하다라는 뜻도 있지만 떠났다 분리되었다 라는 뜻도 가지고 있어서 이렇게 된듯

속아 넘어갔다. 속았다 이런뜻인데 that 에 속았다는 거겠지?? 흠 많이 쓰지는 않는 것 같음 그래도 느낌은 알아두자

~라고 생각한다라고만 해석하면 느낌이 전혀 없음!!

 

진짜인줄 알았다. 라는 뜻인데

I thought it was real. 이렇게 더 많이 쓰지만 had to를 써서 강조한 것으로 보임

 

 

 

 

I fell for it

 

얘는 진짜 많이 쓴다. 속았지 뭐야. 이런느낌? 

 

 

 

 

con him out of

 

얘는 속였다. 라고 쓰인다. 말로는 잘 안쓰이고 글에서 좀 쓰이는 듯한 느낌이다.

con 이 사기를 치다라는 동사라는 것을 알면 문제없이 해석되는 문장이다.

가버렸다는 뜻으로 해석할 수도 있지만 사라졌다. 다 써버렸다. 없어졌다라는 느낌이 더 맞다. 뭔가가 있었는데 지금 없다. 이소리다 ㅋㅋㅋ

이런식으로 좋지 않은 기분이 싹 가셨다. 이렇게도 쓸 수 있다.

여기서는 낚였다. 라고 해석하는게 정말 괜찮다. 속았다! 라는 뜻이다.
